Butcher blasts decision delay
Terry Butcher was furious after the Dundee United game
Terry Butcher was furious after the Dundee United game
Motherwell manager Terry Butcher says the decision to delay the vote on whether Falkirk will be allowed into the Scottish Premier League is "disgusting".

The Well boss watched his bottom-of-the-league side fight out a 2-2 draw with second-bottom Dundee United on Saturday, with neither yet sure if there will be relegation this year.

It emerged on Friday night that no decision would be taken on the issue for at least another fortnight after Hibs refused to waive a ruling that requires 14-days' notice to be given for a general meeting of the SPL to convene.

That means clubs will not know what they are playing for until virtually the last day of the season.

Butcher insists the situation is deplorable and unfair on the clubs involved at the bottom of the table..

"I'm staggered, I'm angry, I'm disappointed," he told BBC Scotland after the game.

"We have to tell players by 15 May whether they are to be retained or not and I'm going to have to do that without knowing where we are going to be next season.

"I can't say how angry I am. We're talking about players' futures here and the future of the club and for people to be disrupting this, I find appalling.

"I don't know what agenda people have, but to have it hanging on for so long is a shame, it's ridiculous and it's a disgrace."
