Owen Coyle leads the celebrations as Falkirk win the First Division |
Falkirk will have to wait at least another fortnight before they learn whether or not they will be accepted into the Scottish Premier League. They were to learn their fate at a hastily arranged general meeting of the SPL this coming Thursday.
But, late on Friday, Hibernian decided not to waive the rule, which requires 14 days notice to be given for a general meeting to be convened.
Hibs managing director Rod Petrie told BBC Scotland's Sportscene programme: "We have had no new information since the last submission and we should be given time to look at the proposals."
Falkirk still intend to present their case at what will now just be an SPL board meeting on Thursday, but no vote can take place.
The delay, while prolonging the agony for supporters of Falkirk and those clubs involved in a potential relegation battle at the foot of the SPL, could be to Falkirk's benefit, allowing them more time to win support for their case.
It is understood that Falkirk chairman Campbell Christie will submit clarification on a number of points to the SPL on Saturday, well before the Tuesday deadline made by the league.
