Cowdenbeath and Brechin could not be separated as the first leg of the First Division play-off final ended goalless.
After a nervy start Cowdenbeath's Kenny Adamson lifted his left-footed shot over from inside the area, then Charlie King wasted a Brechin opportunity.
The Blue Brazil went close from a Paul McQuade shot, which Craig Nelson saved, and Gareth Wardlaw headed wide.
David Hay had saves from Brechin's Stevie Canning and Rory McAllister as Jim Duffy's side searched for a winner.
The two sides will resume on level terms in Sunday's second leg at Glebe Park.
