The New Saints overtook long-term leaders Bangor City at the top of the Welsh Premier League with five games to go after winning at Llanelli.
Llanelli dominated early on, but Saints knocked the stuffing out of their hosts with two goals in the first 30 minutes.
Richie Partridge's cross was turned into his own net by Llanelli defender Kris Thomas.
Then Chris Sharp broke clear down the right before crossing for Craig Jones to beat keeper Ashley Morris close in.
Llanelli refused to give up, Rhys Griffiths firing just wide - and then after the break Wyn Thomas shot just over and Griffiths went close again.
Saints could have scored a third near the end through Matty Williams.
The result takes the reigning champions past Bangor on goal difference, with the title race likely to go right to the wire when Bangor host the Saints on the final day of the campaign (30 April).
