Darlington targets League return

New Saints midfielder Alex Darlington has targeted a return to the Football League after breaking his leg twice while playing for Wrexham last season.

"It was a devastating time, but I've come back and I think I'm doing well," Darlington told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"The New Saints are a good club playing a good standard, and I want to improve and get back in the Football League."

Darlington, 20, will try to press his claims by helping Saints overtake Rhyl and Llanelli in the WPL title chase.

He and his team-mates have pledged to take the fight for the championship to the wire after slipping further behind the top two with last week's 1-1 draw against Newtown.

"We've still got important games, including Llanelli at home, and we're certainly not giving up the ghost," added the midfielder.

Darlington left Wrexham last year after his career at the Racecourse was cut short by a cruel double-injury.

"I joined Wrexham when I was seven and signed as a professional at the beginning of last season, but then I broke my leg twice in the same place," he said.

"It was a terrible time, but I know I can bounce back."
