FK Suduva forced a goal home in the final minute against The New Saints to take the advantage in their Uefa Cup first qualifying round.

A combination of poor finishing by the Lithuanians and some good defending had kept the visiting Saints' goal intact.

But the Welsh Premier side's resistance was broken at the last gasp when Sergiy Kozyuberda pounced from eight yards.

Despite the defeat, the tie remains finely balanced for the return leg at Newtown's Latham Park on 31 July.

Although Saints always seemed capable of catching their hosts on the break, Suduva dominated the match but were unable to find a way through in a tense first half.

Saints striker Mike Wilde shot agonisingly wide in the 25th minute after a neat build-up involving Steve Beck, Jamie Wood and Barry Hogan.

But Ramunas Radavicius should have scored for Suduva a minute later, only to blaze over the bar from 12 yards out.

Radavicius almost scored again but this time Saints goalkeeper Paul Harrison came out bravely to save at the midfielder's feet.

Then it was Ivans Lukjanovs' turn to waste a gilt-edged chance, somehow missing from a point-blank connection with a Radavicius cross.

Radavicius remained the Lithuanians' chief threat after half-time.

But Harrison was forced into two good saves, first from a Bobi Bozinovski free-kick and then getting a hand to a goal-bound header from defender Tomas Mikuckis.

As the first leg move towards injury time, the Saints appeared to have held on for a creditable goalless draw.

Then came a move of real quality from Suduva, as Bozinovski's cross was alllowed to run by first Lukjanovs and then Radavicius.

With the Saints defence wrong-footed, Kozyuberda collected the ball to slam home past a despairing Harrison.
