Tony Grant scores two as Glenavon top the table with a 100 per cent record in the Carling Premiership with a 3-1 defeat of Donegal Celtic

Glenavon moved to the top of the Premiership and maintained their 100% start to the season with a 3-1 win over Donegal Celtic at Mourneview Park.

Tony Grant slotted home a low right-foot shot off the inside of the post in the 17th minute but Darren McNamee drilled in the equaliser on 31 minutes.

Grant headed in his second from six yards in the 58th minute after Sean McGreevy failed to hold a corner.

Trevor Molloy rifled home a left-foot shot two minutes into added time.

McGreevy saved from Molloy in the opening moments of the game before Grant broke the deadlock, heading the ball into his own path before scoring.

McNamee shot across the face of goal before levelling after a neat jink and cool finish.

Brendan Shannon saw his chip come off the bar for Glenavon, before Grant headed into an empty net from six yards.

After the break, Willo McDonagh headed a Paul McVeigh free-kick off the line and then, at the other end, McDonagh's header bounced off the post and into the grateful arms of McGreevy.

Andy Plummer saved well from Aiden McVeigh as Celtic pushed for the equaliser but the Lurgan Blues threatened to put the result beyond doubt.

Stuart King's right-foot deflected shot hit the inside of the post and then the unmarked Grant headed wide as he squandered a glorious opportunity to complete his hat-trick.

McGreevy saved from substitute James Costello, Aiden McVeigh headed against the bar and then Molloy made the points safe.

The Lurgan Blues are two points clear at the top of the table and manager Marty Quinn was well satisfied after the match.

"We set ourselves a target of nine points from our opening three games so it is very satisfying to achieve that," said Quinn.

"Tony Grant worked very hard and thoroughly deserved his two goals - he is a great example to younger players and Mark Miskimmin is learning a lot from him."
