Portadown beat derby rivals Glenavon 1-0 thanks to Andy Hunter's close-range header from a Gary McCutcheon corner in the 68th minute at Mourneview Park.
Conor Walsh and Rory Hamill had first half chances for the Lurgan Blues while Johnny Topley fired over when well placed for the Ports.
McCutcheon went close after the break while Andrew Plummer made good saves from Jordan Baker and Owen Morrison.
Willo McDonagh was denied a goal by a fine stop by David Miskelly.
Walsh had his fierce shot palmed away by Miskelly after just five minutes and then Hamill pulled his effort wide of the post.
Topley lofted over from a good position after Plummer failed to hold Ross Redman's strike.
McCutcheon and Baker both had shots saved before the interval.
McCutcheon was again denied after the break before Plummer saved from Baker and then Hunter broke the deadlock from the resulting corner.
Morrison's low shot was pushed onto a post by Plummer.
