Newry's Alan Davidson was sent off for an apparent stamp on John Convery
Newry City failed to score for the fifth successive Carling Premiership match but they claimed a point as three players were sent off at Shamrock Park.
Portadown's Darren Kelly was the first player to receive the early bath in the 37th minute after a late tackle on Kevin Keegan.
Newry's Alan Davidson then received a straight red card on 44 for an apparent stamp on Portadown's John Convery.
However, Convery was dismissed himself for a second booking on 65 minutes.
Coleraine's win over Crusaders means that Newry drop to ninth position in the table on 18 points.
Portadown are two points further back in 10th place.
