Institute keeper Gavin Cullen denied Andrew Waterworth while Declan Divin struck just wide for the visitors.

Gillespie chested down before firing in a 70th minute equaliser and Institute withstood late pressure from the Glens.

Daryl Fordyce had the chance to win it with two minutes left but the Glens midfielder headed straight at Cullen.

Former Northern Ireland winger Gillespie joint the east Belfast club in August.

Glentoran remain fifth in the table while Institute leapfrog Portadown into tenth.
