Cliftonville came from a goal behind to beat Newry City 2-1 in Sunday's Carling Premiership game at the Showgrounds.

Alan Davidson scored for Newry in the 36th minute when he accepted a backheel from Stephen Garrett, saw off two challenges and fired into the net.

George McMullan slammed the ball home from the edge of the 18-yard box for the Reds' equaliser on the hour.

Mark Clarke struck home through a ruck of players from just inside the box for the winner in the 68th minute.

Emmet Friars scooped the ball over the bar early on for Newry and then Cliftonville goalkeeper John Connolly twice denied Stephen Garrett, once with his legs.

Ronan Scannell crossed for Clarke in the 34th minute and the young forward saw his close range header saved by Andy Coleman.

McMullan levelled when the ball fell to him after shots by Ryan Catney and Clarke were only partially cleared.

Clarke scored the winner and then Davidson saw his 30-yard shot saved by Connolly.

Chris Scannell had a late chance to score a third for Cliftonville but his effort was parried by Coleman.
