Institute 1-1 Cliftonville

John Gregg
John Gregg's side now have five league points

Institute and Cliftonville took a point apiece from Tuesday night's hard-fought league encounter at Drumahoe.

Austin Friel accepted a pass from James Quigley, beat the offside trap and fired a left-foot shot into the bottom corner of the net in the 24th minute.

Declan Divin and Francis Murphy had chances to score before the break.

Substitute Ryan Dunlop levelled on 58 minutes when he pounced to slam the ball home after Gavin Cullen had palmed away Liam Boyce's initial effort.

Friel's opener was a fine goal, as he found the bottom left-hand corner of John Connolly's net to put the home side in front.

Divin then picked up on a mistake by defender Aaron Smyth but he shot wide after bearing in on goal.

The visitors enjoyed more of the possession and Murphy saw his header blocked on the line by Cullen before the interval.

Murphy provided the cross which led to the Reds' equaliser, with Dunlop finding the back of the net.

Cliftonville squandered a terrific opportunity to secure all three points when Murphy ran clear from George McMullan's pass in the closing minutes but the former Lisburn Distillery winger pushed his shot wide of the post with only the goalkeeper to beat.
