Derry's Stephen Gray and Ryan Guy challenge for the ball at the Brandywell
Derry City kept up their bid to secure European football by overcoming the loss of Clive Delaney to beat St Patrick's Athletic 1-0 on Sunday night.
Central defender Delaney was dismissed after 31 minutes of the League of Ireland Premier game at the Brandywell.
Ciaran Martyn scored the only goal of the game in the 79th minute.
Thomas Stewart headed the ball to the back post where Martyn volleyed into the top corner to seal victory and close the gap on third-placed Cork.
The Candystripes next face an away trip to take on Bray Wanderers on Friday night, followed by a home fixture with Galway United on Tuesday 1 September.
