Ciaran Martyn (left) and Kevin Long challenge for the ball
Derry City were held to a 1-1 draw by Cork City in Sunday evening's entertaining League of Ireland Premier Division game at the Brandywell.
Just as it looked like the first half would end scoreless, Dan Murray out the ball into his own net from a Ger O'Brien cross to give Derry the lead.
Second-half substitute Shane Duggan fired the ball into the roof of the net from the edge of the box on 51 minutes.
The result means Derry remain fourth, two points behind Cork.
Aaron Nash had an early chance for Derry but he blasted his shot wide from Gareth McGlynn's cross.
At the other end, Guntars Silagailis saw his weak shot easily saved by Gerard Doherty.
Mark Farren and Nash had further chances before Cork skipper Murray inadvertently broke the deadlock.
Duggan equalised just 90 seconds after entering the fray but Derry almost found the perfect response when Ciaran Martyn tried to lob the goalkeeper from close range but he lifted the ball over the crossbar.
Cork had a penalty appeal turned down in injury time when Billy Dennehy went down under a challenge from Peter Hutton but the referee waved away appeals from the visitors.
