Jay Magee (left celebrates his early goal with Hugh Dickson

Jay Magee's early goal helped Glenavon claim another thoroughly deserved JJB Sports Premiership victory over Linfield in Tuesday's clash.

Magee volleyed the only goal on nine minutes and after Glenn Ferguson had a penalty saved by Tuda Murphy, Glenavon went on to dominate the second half.

Michael Carvill hit the Glenavon crossbar in the second half but the home side had the bulk of the chances.

Noel Hudson, Tony Grant and Conor Walsh all could have extended the home lead.

Magee struck his superb goal from 25 yards after a poor defensive clearance following Gareth Scates' corner.

Linfield's penalty before half-time annoyed the home fans with Hugh Dickson appearing to make little contact with Jamie Mulgrew before the Blueman tumbled.

Ferguson took the penalty but Murphy dived full length to make a great save.

Glenavon had a penalty shout of their own on 59 minutes as Aidan O'Kane appeared to handle a Gary Liggett shot.

Hudson then went close for the Lurgan Blues while the impressive Grant just failed to pick out the unmarked Liggett after a great run by the Dubliner.

Carvill clipped the Glenavon crossbar with a speculative effort in just about Linfield's only decent attack of the second half.

Glenavon were in control and Linfield's Alan Mannus had to make late saves to deny Grant and Conor Walsh.

The victory means Glenavon have beaten the Blues twice in two and a half weeks following their stunning 4-2 win at Windsor Park on 22 November.
