A second-half strike from Jamie Mulgrew secured a laboured victory which keeps the Blues top of the JJB Sports Premiership by a point.
Coleraine's Paddy McLaughlin cleared a Mark Miskimmin shot off the line before Damien Curran did the same for Linfield from Jody Tolan's header.
Tolan wasted a good chance just after the break when he headed wide.
Mulgrew slotted home from six yards on 51 minutes after good work from Glenn Ferguson and Miskimmin.
