Glentoran could withdraw from the Co Antrim Shield after being ordered to move their game against Newington YC from Thursday to next Tuesday night.
The Glens had announced that their game was being brought forward to Thursday.
However, the club has been informed that the Co Antrim FA has withdrawn its consent for the change of date.
Glens chairman Aubrey Ralph said the "shambolic situation was not of our making and must call into question our participation in this tournament".
In relation to the Co Antrim FA withdrawing consent, Ralph told the club website that "the reason given for this was an oversight of a previous ruling regarding fixture switches".
Matches must be played on the dates arranged at the IFA's annual fixture meeting.
If a competition's organising body wants to change the date of the game, it must make the request in writing to the IFA.
It is believed the Glens wanted the tie moved forward to allow striker Gary Hamilton to use up his one-match suspension before the start of the league season on Saturday.
All Co Antrim Shield fixtures are scheduled to take place next Tuesday night and Ralph confirmed that the game at the Oval will go ahead with a 1930 BST kick-off.
