Ryan Berry scored Glentoran's second goal in the final |
Glentoran lifted the first silverware of the season by beating Crusaders 2-1 in the final of the Crest Teamwear County Antrim Shield at Windsor Park. The Glens took the lead on 64 minutes when Gary Hamilton crossed and Michael Halliday headed down for David Scullion to swivel and fire home left-footed.
Ryan Berry made it 2-0 six minutes later when he struck home a 25-yard shot past Crues goalkeeper Aaron Hogg.
Chris Morrow headed in a Stephen McBride cross a minute into added time.
The first half was an uninspiring affair with few chances at either end.
Darren Lockhart almost created a scoring chance after 20 minutes but Colin Nixon did well to halt his progress with a saving tackle.
Eamon Doherty's inswinging corner was tipped over by Elliott Morris and Morrow headed over from a McBride free-kick.
For Glentoran, Hamilton sent a 25-yard free-kick flashing wide of the post.
The Glens opened the scoring after Hamilton checked inside Ryan Tumilty, created space and crossed for Halliday to cushion his header down for Scullion to score.
Hamilton's low cross was sliced into the path of Berry who added the second soon after.
McBride provided the long, deep cross for Morrow to head the Crues' consolation goal low into the net.
The victory saw Alan McDonald claim his first trophy as Glentoran manager.
