Thomas Wray scored twice in the second half to give Ballymena victory over their derby rivals at the Showgrounds.
Coleraine goalkeeper Davy O'Hare had to come off with a calf injury early on, with John Neill going into goal.
Davy Patton had a chance, Kevin Kelbie shot wide, Gary Haveron went close and Stuart King had an effort pushed away.
Jody Tolan missed an easy chance, Stephen Carson found the sidenetting and then Wray headed in from Garth Scates deliveries on 48 and 69 minutes.
Neill made fine saves from United's Paul McNeill and King while Patton had another opportunity and Sean Heneghan blazed high and wide.
