Derry City moved into second in the Eircom Premier League by beating Drogheda United 2-0 at the Brandywell.

An Owen Morrison cross was knocked into his own net by Drogs defender Joe Kendrick for an own goal on 52 minutes.

Two minutes later Mark Farren made it 2-0 with a penalty after the striker had been brought down inside the area.

The visitors were reduced to 10 men on 57 minutes when Ibrahima Iyane-Thiam was sent-off for a second bookable offence.

Early in the game a Pat McCourt cross was deflected into the path of Farren but goalkeeper Mikko Vilmunen reached the ball firest.

Three minutes before the break, Drogheda went close when Adam Hughes set up Stuart Byrne but his shot was saved by Gerard Doherty.
