Conor Sammon equalised in the fourth and final minute of injury-time as Derry snatched a draw in Friday night's Eircom Premier Division clash.
Cork took a 12th minute lead at Turner's Cross when Dave Mooney turned and shot past keeper Gerard Doherty.
Doherty pushed a John O'Flynn shot round the post just after the break before Mooney wasted a headed chance.
Derry kept battling and substitute Sammon finished at the backpost from Kevin McHugh's low cross.
McHugh was presented with a good chance after just two minutes but fired straight at keeper Michael Devine from eight yards.
Devine went on to save another McHugh effort on 28 minutes.
Cork dominated much of the second half and Joe Gamble volleyed just wide after 52 minutes.
Candystripes defender Steven Gray headed over from a corner with 15 minutes left.
Derry substitute Mark Farren was put clear by Barry Molloy on 85 minutes but the advancing Devine blocked the striker's attempted chip.
Stephen Kenny's side remain unbeaten after three games but are two points behind leaders St Pat's, who beat Galway United 1-0.
