Richard Clarke had a fine game for Newry City |
Two goals from Chris Morgan and a glorious strike from Richard Clarke helped Newry City beat Limavady in the Carnegie Irish Premier League clash. Morgan struck Newry ahead on 14 minutes and Darren King and Stephen Garrett went close to extending the lead.
Clarke doubled Newry's advantage with his superb 25-yard shot on 54 minutes and Morgan tapped in Newry's third goal on 58 minutes.
The defeat drops Limavady to the bottom of the table on goal difference.
Morgan scored Newry's third goal after Limavady keeper Glen Millar had tipped a looping Emmett Friars header on to the crossbar.
Gareth Tommins had Limavady's best first-half chance but he shot just wide on 33 minutes after a rare Roesiders' attack had stretched the Newry defence.
In the second half, Friars missed a good chance to put Newry 4-0 up while Paul Brown and Tommins squandered late chances for the visitors.
Brown's effort was blocked by the Newry defence while Tommins' shot was deflected wide.
Limavady drop to the bottom of the league table on goal difference, below Larne, while Newry move up to seventh place.
