Colin Malone's Glenavon led 1-0 after the first leg
Glenavon beat Bangor 4-2 on penalties to stay in the Premier League after Tuesday night's play-off second leg saw Bangor win 1-0 after extra-time.

David Irvine stabbed the ball home from close range on 57 minutes to make the aggregate score 1-1 and Glenavon had Adrian Harper sent-off in extra-time.

Paul Rice scored the winning penalty after Bangor's Irvine had missed the target and Jason Allen hit the post.

Marty Hunter, Barry Meehan and Paul Walsh also netted for the Lurgan Blues.

Stephen Magennis was the only Mourneview man to miss out while Paul McDowell and Steven Munn were the only two successful penalty takers for the Seasiders.

Gerard McMahon had the first chance of the match but he shot over the bar and David Ward sliced an effort wide from a good position.

Irvine scored after Dominic Melly's corner resulted in a goalmouth scramble in the Lurgan Blues' penalty area.

Neal Gawley scuffed an effort wide with the goal gaping on 76 minutes and at the other end Andy Morrow's shot from a McDowell through ball beat Rice but came off the post.

Glenavon substitute Marty Haveron combined with Nathan McConnell with two minutes remaining but they could not produce a late winner so the game went into extra-time.

Harper was red-carded for a late challenge on Melly ten minutes into the first period of extra-time and the visitors almost snatched it when John Bailie stabbed the ball off the base of the post from Melly's corner in the dying seconds.
