Padraig Gollogley was at the centre of a registration inquiry |
Larne are celebrating a reprieve from relegation after winning back the 16 points they had been deducted in the Padraig Gollogley registration case. However, they have been fined 8,000 for playing defender Gollogley without the required international clearance.
The Irish FA's appeals board said it had been an innocent mistake which should have been discovered sooner.
The decision means Loughgall are relegated and Glenavon now go into the promotion/relegation play-off.
The Lurgan side will play First Division runners-up Bangor on 8 and 11 May to decide who will play in the Carnegie Premier League next season.
The appeals board said that measures had been put in place to prevent similar mistakes being made.
The points deducation fiasco caused embarrassment on the eve of the final day of the league season.
"We are delighted at the outcome and feel justice has been done," said Sam McCready, a former Larne chairman who was one of the club representatives at the apeal hearing.
"We knew from the outset we were in the right.
"We would like to thank the independent tribunal because we have seen fair play.
"We know there is still a big fine to be paid so we will have to rally round as a club."
