Alan Moore joined Shelbourne in 2004 after a spell at Burnley |
Derry City have signed former Republic of Ireland midfielder Alan Moore ahead of their Premier Division opener against Bray Wanderers on Friday night. The 32-year-old, who has played for Burnley, Barnsley and Middlesborough, joins on a one-year deal after being released by crisis club Shelbourne.
"He's got quality and brings experience as well," said City boss Pat Fenlon.
Swedish keeper Ola Tidman is another new arrival at the Brandywell after being handed a two-year contract.
The 27-year-old's previous clubs include Sheffield Wednesday, Stockport County and FC Midtjylland.
Fenlon signed Tidman after he impressed during a week's trial with the Eircom League club.
Moore, the third player to move from Shelbourne to Derry in the close season, won eight caps during his international career with the Republic.
Fenlon, his former boss at Tolka Park, is happy with the strength of his squad as Derry prepare for a title challenge.
"Alan's played a lot of games in the Premiership and internationals as well," added Fenlon.
"He's probably coming to the end of his career but he has great experience and that is one thing that we're lacking in certain areas.
"I am more than confident for the new season.
"We had some very talented players before I came here and hopefully the three or four that we've added are better than the ones that have left."
