Eddie Patterson's Reds are having a tremendous season |
Cliftonville set up a Crest County Antrim Shield final clash with Lisburn Distillery by beating Glentoran 2-1 in Tuesday's semi-final at the Oval. George McMullan put the Reds ahead on 36 minutes but he was sent off midway through the second half before Jason Hill levelled for the Glens on 75.
Mark Holland hit the Cliftonville winner from the penalty spot on 82.
A minute's silence in memory of David Ervine before the game was not respected by a number of Reds fans.
Glentoran had a chance in the opening minute but Cliftonville goalkeeper John Connolly did well to stop Michael Halliday's header.
There were no other chances of note in the opening half-hour as the two sides largely cancelled each other out.
However, McMullan fired the Reds ahead with a superb 20-yard shot in the 36th minute after a fine pass from in-form midfielder Conor Downey, who is being courted by a number of clubs including Glentoran.
McMullan turned villain in the 69th minute when he was sent off by referee David Best for an apparent stamp on Kyle Neill.
With the man advantage, the Glens got on terms six minutes later when substitute Jason Hill scrambled the ball home from six yards after Connolly's weak punch.
At that stage, the Glens looked the likelier winners but there was another twist seven minutes later when Cliftonville won their penalty.
Peter McCann did appear to foul Gary Kennedy in the box and former Distillery striker Holland coolly stepped up to slot the spot-kick.
The Glens pressed hard in the closing moments and Halliday poked a half-chance wide with a minute to go.
However, the Reds held on for the win which continued their tremendous season.
