Gary Hamilton celebrates scoring for Glentoran |
An injury time goal from Allan Smart gave Portadown a dramatic 3-2 win over league leaders Glentoran at the Oval. Gary Hamilton lobbed Kevin Pressman for the opener on 33 minutes but Gary McCutcheon equalised with a right foot shot into the top corner on 37 minutes.
Hamilton powered a header into the roof of the net on 79 minutes but McCutcheon levelled again with a back post strike from Peter Kennedy's cross after 90.
Smart converted a free header from a McCutcheon cross for the Ports' winner.
Portadown had the first chance of the game when McCutcheon got in front of a defender from Kennedy's cross but his flick hit the post with Glens goalkeeper Elliott Morris beaten.
After Hamilton's opener Wesley Boyle also hit the woodwork and Smart fired the rebound into the sidenetting.
McCutcheon scored his first and then Hamilton shot wide for the Glens before the interval.
After the break Michael Halliday should have done better when John Convery blocked his effort inside the area and at the other end Boyle was denied by Morris.
Neill provided the delivery for Hamilton's second of the game, the striker finding the empty net from Paul Leeman's flick-on.
The late goals from McCutcheon and Smart means Glentoran's lead is reduced to two points.
After the game Ports manager Ronnie McFall described the match as "a tremendous advert for Irish League football".
"The title race is wide open now and I have always maintained that it does not really kick in until the end of the season.
"We play Cliftonville, Crusaders and then go to Windsor Park to face Linfield so those are three big games for us."
