Declan Devine's final game at Derry was Sunday's FAI Cup final win |
Derry City coach Declan Devine is leaving the club to link up with former Candystripes manager Stephen Kenny at Scottish club Dunfermline Athletic. It's another blow for Derry after goalkeeper David Forde revealed that he is set to join Cardiff City.
Derry completed a memorable season on the field by winning the Carlsberg FAI Cup in dramatic fashion on Sunday.
However, other players are out of contract so there could be further departures from the Brandywell.
Devine broke the news of his decision to the Derry chairman Hugh McDaid this morning.
The former goalkeeper told BBC Sport that it was a "massive wrench" to leave the Candystripes.
"It's been desperate. I just look at the weekend that we've just had and the bunch of players that are here," said Devine.
"But for myself, for the first time personally, I feel as though I need to move on.
"The only reason I'm doing it is for selfish reasons. I need to test myself."
Dunfermline coach Craig Robertson will continue to play a key role despite Devine's arrival at East End Park
Kenny told The Courier: "Declan knows what I want and we work well together.
"Craig Robertson will be staying on and the three of us will work together.
"Craig has a very important knowledge of Scottish football and is experienced. He?s got a very high work ethic and we need three people to train the first team."
