Stephen Shaw struck the winner direct from a free-kick |
A superb free-kick by Stephen Shaw was enough to give second-placed Crusaders the points against Newry at Seaview. Shaw curled the ball over the visitors' four-man wall to beat City keeper Andy Coleman after 47 minutes.
Newry piled forward towards the end with Andy Crawford's header hitting the bar and Crues defender Jeff Spiers blocking from Cormac McArdle.
"It was a quality free-kick to win the match though Newry may feel hard done by," said Crues boss Stephen Baxter.
"This young lad gets better with these free-kicks. He is a top-quality striker of a football and does it every week in training.
"But he has to keep working hard.
"We are trying our best to play at this level and I think we have proved a match for most teams."
