Glens-Reds game gets the go-ahead
Gary Hamilton and Davy McAlinden in action in the recent CIS Cup final
Glentoran and Cliftonville will be in action at the Oval on Saturday
Glentoran's Carnegie Irish Premier League match against Cliftonville at the Oval on Saturday will go ahead with a 1300 GMT kick-off.

The game had been in doubt because of safety concerns but following a series of meetings, the encounter got the go-ahead on Wednesday evening.

Health and safety officials had elevated the game to "high risk" after trouble following the CIS Cup final.

A number of Reds fans were involved in disturbances after that game.

On Wednesday, the two clubs were involved in a number of meetings with health and safety officials as well as the PSNI.

A number of Belfast City councillors, including Jim Rodgers, were also involved in the negotiations.

Glentoran officials are not entirely happy with the earlier kick-off but there is a sense of relief that the game is going ahead.

"Obviously, we are not happy with a 1pm kick-off which means the fans will suffer, but we did our utmost to have the match played at the normal time," said Glentoran director of football Tom Dick.
