Stephen O'Flynn saw his penalty saved by Darren Quigley |
Derry missed out on the chance to go top of the Eircom Premier Division after being held by the students at the Brandywell on Sunday night. Stephen O'Flynn should have given City victory but Darren Quigley saved the substitute's 47th minute penalty after Pat McCourt was fouled by Conor Kenna.
Quigley kept out Darren Kelly's header in a poor first half.
Derry have lost their perfect home record and are a point behind leaders Shelbourne with a game in hand.
O'Flynn and Sean Hargan had late chances for the Candystripes but UCD held on for the stalemate.
The game marked the return of McCourt from a hamstring injury after two months on the sidelines.
