David Jeffrey holds aloft the Irish Cup after Saturday's triumph |
Linfield boss David Jeffrey hailed his 'clean sweep' winning team the 2-1 victory over Glentoran in Saturday's Irish Cup final at Windsor Park. "We won the league six weeks before the end of the season and people asked if we had run out of steam," he said.
"The answer to that is no way, we were brilliant today and I am very proud.
"This year has eclipsed everything I have done at Windsor Park but this is all about the team, club and supporters - they have been fantastic."
Michael Halliday put the Glens ahead but a brace from prolific striker Peter Thompson secured the cup triumph for Linfield.
The Northern Ireland international has scored 48 times this season but may have played his last game for the club with a cross-channel move a distinct possibility.
"To get the goals is great personally but the most important thing is that we went on to win the game," said the man-of-the-match.
"The boys stepped it up in the second half and I think we were deserved winners.

"To win the cup to complete the 'clean sweep' is an amazing feeling.
"To finally achieve it speaks volumes for the players and the coaching staff at Windsor Park."
Not surprisingly there was disappointment for Glens manager Paul Millar, who questioned the awarding of a vital free-kick by referee Michael Ross.
"I feel we dominated the first half but we gave a poor goal away from a set-piece," he said.
"I thought the referee was conned for the free-kick which led to the second goal.
"We came up against a good Linfield side and fair play to them, they've had a good season.
"We played well and battled away but we are still a bit short - it is up to us to sort out Linfield next season."
