Peter Thompson and Glenn Ferguson scored in Linfield's win |
Linfield's relentless march towards the Carnegie Premier League title continued as they beat Newry City at Windsor Park to stretch their lead to 13 points. Newry, who had won their last five under new boss Paul Millar, were in front after ex-Blue Andy Crawford scored just before half-time.
But defender William Murphy headed Linfield level just after the break.
Glenn Ferguson headed the runaway leaders into a 63rd-minute lead with Peter Thompson scoring a late third.
This latest victory means David Jeffrey's team dropped just seven points during 2005.
It was a disappointing end for Newry who were buoyant at half-time thanks to Crawford's goal which came after Barry Curran's cross had been missed by the home defence.
But the prospects of a surprise result ended when Murphy directed a fine header past keeper Robert Robinson.
Thompson supplied a neat bye-line chip for Ferguson to headed in his 26th goal of the season.
Ferguson then returned the compliment, crossing from the right for Thompson to score after keeper Robinson had missed the ball.
