Glenn Ferguson has scored 25 goals this season |
Glenn Ferguson grabbed a brace as Linfield extended their lead at the top of the league table to 10 points. William Murphy headed in the opener on four minutes and Ferguson tapped in the second on the half hour.
Peter Thompson added the third with a looping header after 33 and Ferguson's fine strike on 50 minutes made it 4-0.
Ferguson then saw his penalty saved by Elliott Morris after Paul McAreavey was brought down in the area and Peter McCann grabbed a late consolation goal.
Linfield could have opened the scoring in the first minute when Michael Gault's deflected shot was saved by Morris.
Murphy was unchallenged as he headed in to make it 1-0 and then Ferguson squandered a chance when he headed wide with the goal at his mercy.
Chris Morgan was unable to reach Colin Nixon's cross and were made to pay when Ferguson took advantage of poor marking to convert a cross from the left.
Thompson then latched onto his strike partner's flick-on to head into the bottom corner and Ferguson scored the goal of the game soon after the restart.
Ferguson's penalty miss, the eighth time the Blues have missed from the spot this season, was followed by the former Northern Ireland striker shaving the post with a header.
McCann turned and shot home to pull one back for the Glens on 85 minutes.
