John Convery scored Portadown's winner |
A 77th minute John Convery goal saw Portadown take the points in a stormy Mid Ulster derby which saw both teams finish the game with nine men. Glenavon had the best of the early chances before Gary Hamilton shot over.
Shea Campbell was sent-off on 32 for an off the ball incident and after a scrappy Convery winner, three more players took an early bath.
On 81, Stephen McAloran and Wesley Boyle were red carded for raising fists and Hamilton followed for simulation.
The Lurgan Blues made a bright start with Gerard McMahon blasting wide, Scott Walker missing a good chance and David McAlinden having an effort saved.
Campbell's dismissal was followed by a spate of yellow cards and after the break, Hamilton's shot was brilliantly saved by Andy McDonald.
The striker forced the ball home from a corner but was later sent to the dressing room for a second yellow card offence.
