George McMullan was on target for Cliftonville |
Cliftonville came from a goal behind to secure a narrow 3-2 win at Institute, despite having Liam Fleming sent off for a second bookable offence late on. Declan Divin sidefooted the home side in front on four minutes but George McMullan levelled with a right-foot half-volley from 20 yards after 33.
Nathan McConnell headed home from eight yards on 43 and a Neil Harkin own goal on 47 extended the Reds' advantage.
Darren McCready converted a penalty for Institute four minutes after half-time.
Divin collected a through ball and fired home, with Cliftonville appealing in vain for offside, for the early opener.
McMullan beat Gary Ramsey for the equaliser, finding the bottom right hand corner of the net with his well placed shot.
McConnell met Sean Friars' cross from the left at the back post to put Eddie Patterson's side ahead and the unfortunate Harkin then turned Friars' free-kick into his own net with a misplaced header.
McCready pulled one back from the spot after referee David McGarvey adjudged that Tommy McCallion had been brought down inside the area by George McMullan.
Liam Fleming and Paul Stranney were booked for their subsequent protests.
Fleming was dismissed on 90 minutes and then in added time, David Ogilby almost grabbed an equaliser but his shot was deflected onto the bar.
