Glentoran's Shaun Holmes broke the deadlock at the Oval |
Plucky Loughgall held Glentoran at bay for 70 minutes before Shaun Holmes scored the only goal at the Oval. Former Wrexham midfielder Holmes netted from a Peter McCann cross to keep the champions just two points behind Premier League leaders Linfield.
Glentoran struggled in the first half and their best effort was a Stephen Parkhouse header which was turned away for a corner by keeper Marc Robinson.
Gavin Melaugh then scooped the ball wide after good work by Gary Browne.
Glentoran have gone 19 home league games without defeat.
"We are not at out best but are still on a fantastic run," said matchwiner Holmes.
"Hopefully when our form kicks in it will be at the right time."
