Linfield have moved two points clear at the top of the Carnegie Premier League after beating the Braidmen. Pat McShane scored the opener from the penalty spot on 36 minutes after Oran Kearney was pushed as he attempted to get on the end of Tim Mouncey's cross.
Gary Haveron and Vincent Sweeney went close for Ballymena after the break before Glenn Ferguson doubled the lead for Linfield after 73 minutes.
The striker showed his class with a 12-yard volley inside the post.
Ferguson was denied by a goal-line clearance at the end of the first half after he connected with Mouncey's corner.
Linfield have opened a gap on Big Two rivals Glentoran, who were held to a scoreless draw by Cliftonville.
United have slipped one place to 12th but remain six points ahead of bottom club Ards.
