Colin Malone's side have won two of their first three league games |
Goals from David Ward and Anto Reilly helped Armagh City beat Newry 2-1 in Saturday's Irish Premier League game. Ward opened the scoring in the 20th minute after running on to a pass from Johnny McSorley.
Newry's Damien Curran had an effort tipped on to the woodwork by Paul Rice before Reilly doubled Armagh's lead in the 59th minute after a Ward pass.
Curran scored from the penalty spot in the 75th minute but despite further Newry pressure, Armagh held on.
Newry sub Andy Crawford looked fortunate to have earned the penalty after tumbling in the Armagh box.
Paddy McLaughlin headed a good chance wide for Newry while Armagh goalkeeper Rice denied Damien McLaughlin and Stephen Ferguson.
Indeed, Newry were by far the better team in the second half and they will wonder how they failed to take something from the game.
