Colin Malone's Armagh secured the points with a 3-2 win |
Armagh City secured their first-ever Irish Premier League points with a narrow win over Larne at Inver Park. Former Larne forward Derek Delaney put City ahead after just two minutes but Lewis Hamlin scored a 27th-minute equaliser from a Simon Humphreys cross.
David Ward edged Armagh ahead three minutes after half-time and then Anto Reilly made it 3-1 on 62.
Hamlin scored his second to set up a tense final 11 minutes but Colin Malone's men held on for the victory.
So a great boost for last year's First Division champions who had lost their opening IPL game 2-1 at Institute.
They got the early break when Davy Hawthorne made ground down the left and squared for Delaney to score.
Larne levelled after a short corner, Humphreys' cross leading to Hamlin's telling strike.
Ward pounced from close-range to restore Armagh's one-goal advantage and then Hawthorne ran into the box to set up Reilly for the third.
Hamlin cracked in a left-foot shot on 79 minutes but the Inver men could not find an equaliser and have lost their first two of the IPL campaign.
