Portadown need only a point from their final two CIS Cup group matches to make the last eight after beating their neighbours Glenavon 3-1 on Tuesday. Gary Hamilton struck Portadown ahead in the 59th minute after a mistake by Glenavon defender Aaron Black.
Shay Campbell missed a Glenavon chance before Marty Verner levelled for the Lurgan Blues in the 76th minute.
Vinny Arkins restored the Ports' lead in the 73rd minute and Wesley Boyle's goal made the game safe on 83.
Portadown now lead Group 2 on 10 points, two ahead of Newry and six clear of Ballymena.
Glenavon are still without a point in the group.
