Wesley Boyle scored a 15th-minute opener for Portadown |
Portadown dropped their first points of the CIS Insurance Cup campaign when they were held 1-1 away to Newry City. The Ports had taken the lead on 15 minutes through Wes Boyle who shot past keeper Robert Robinson after Richard Clarke's first effort had been blocked.
Newry City levelled in first-half stoppage-time through Damien Whitehead after Gerry Flynn had robbed Michael Collins to deliver the through ball.
City pressed late on and Ports defender Kyle Neill had to block twice.
"We had a chance to win the game but I am still pleased with the performance," said Newry boss Roy McCreadie.
"We were minus a few players but produced some good football to cause Portadown problems."
