United manager Tommy Wright suffered a CIS Cup defeat |
A Barry Curran brace gave Newry all three points in the CIS Cup Group Two encounter at the Showgrounds. The City striker met Gerry Flynn's eighth minute cross at the backpost to head in the opener.
Curran doubled the lead on 36 minutes with a 10-yard strike but Vincent Sweeney pulled one back for United with a superb effort after 52 minutes.
Newry had Alan Murphy sent-off on 65 minutes but the visitors held on to secure joint top spot with Portadown.
