Vinny Arkins gave Portadown a narrow CIS Cup Group Two victory over the Sky Blues at Shamrock Park. The striker scored the winner after 14 minutes with a header into the top corner from Kyle Neill's free-kick.
Ballymena were creating chances and Rory Hamill was denied three times by keeper David Miskelly before Gordon Simms headed against the crossbar.
Hamill had another effort saved by Miskelly in the second half while Neill struck the United woodwork.
