McGeough unhappy over Weir trials
Jimmy McGeough
Jimmy McGeough has hit out at the loss of Robbie Weir
Larne's teenage star Robbie Weir will miss Saturday's Premier League game against Linfield because he is undertaking a trial at Sunderland.

The 16-year-old midfielder has already unproductive tests at Fulham and Stoke City youth sides and now his boss Jimmy McGeough is not sure of the benefits.

''I have expressed my opposition to these run of trials,'' said McGeough.

''I'm not sure it proves anything. He's a great prospect and one who'll learn his trade in senior football here.''

McGeough said that he would prefer visiting England scouts to watch Weir play in the local scene.

''I would prefer cross-channel scouts watched him play at the highest competitive level in Irish League's Premier Division and then make up their mind.''

For Saturday, McGeough might have Barry Tumilty back after a number of weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.
