Jimmy McGeough will meet the Larne players on Monday night
Former Waterford United boss Jimmy McGeough has been confirmed at the new Larne manager.

Larne last week sacked John Devine and his assistant Neil Candlish.

Former Derry City player McGeough will beginning preparations for Friday's CIS Cup game against Institute when he meets the Larne players on Monday.

Prior to taking charge of Waterford, McGeough, a former Sheffield Wednesday player, also coached in the United States for over 20 years.

Larne chairman Sam McCready said the club were delighted to "get someone as famous as Jimmy at Inver Park".

"We told the players on Saturday after the game with Wellington Rec and they were delighted," said McCready.

McGeough was also in contention for the Derry City job following the departure of Gavin Dykes but ex-Bohemians boss Stephen Kenny is now believed to be in line to take over at the Brandywell.

Peter Hutton has done a remarkable job as caretaker manager in recent weeks but he does not want the job on a permanent basis.

Kenny was sacked as Bohemians boss after the Dublin club's recent Uefa Cup exit against Levadia Tallinn.

He got the Bohs job at the end of 2002, after guiding Longford Town to promotion.

In 2003 they claimed the Eircom League but the Dublin club are out of contention for the title this season.
