Beckham boost for England
England captain David Beckham
Beckham missed Real's Champions League game on Wednesday

England captain David Beckham returned to training on Friday and Real Madrid's doctor believes the midfielder will be fit for the Euro 2004 showdown in Turkey on 11 October.

Beckham missed Real Madrid's 3-1 Champions League win in Porto on Wednesday night because of a foot injury he picked up in the 2-0 defeat at Valencia on Saturday.

But the ex-Manchester United star, wearing a strap around his right foot, took a full part in Friday morning's training session.

"He's almost certain to be fit for England - we spoke about that at the start. Beckham asked if he will be able to play and I said he'll be fine," said club doctor Juan Carlos Hernandez.

"There are no worries at all. It still hurts a bit when you touch his foot and he's training with a bandage on and with that he's okay.

"I've still got a doubt about Sunday but he ran fine with a bandage on Thursday and if he has a reaction then maybe he'll need another day or so. That still leaves plenty of time for England."

Beckham had not trained since playing the full 90 minutes against Valencia in which he suffered an acute inflammation of the sole of his right foot.

"The treatment was anti-inflammation drugs, a bandage and physiotherapy on the affected area," added Hernandez.

Beckham was struggling with a groin injury before the Euro 2004 qualifiers against Macedonia and Liechtenstein, but recovered in time to play.

The England squad to face Turkey will be announced at 1900 BST on Sunday.
