Uefa has delayed its decision on what action to take over allegations of crowd trouble and racism during England's Euro 2004 tie in Slovakia.

Europe's governing body has appointed an inspector to investigate the alleged lack of organisation by the Slovakian Football Association.

The move comes after the English FA claimed that local authorities allowed 2,000 ticketless and unauthorised England fans access to the stadium in Bratislava.

Slovakian police in riot gear were involved in trying to control crowd unrest in a section of away fans, but the English FA believes police over-reacted.

The match was also marred by racist abuse from home supporters, who targeted Emile Heskey and Ashley Cole, for which the Slovakian FA was charged.

A final verdict against both the English and Slovakian associations will now be issued on 17 December.

FA spokesman Paul Newman said: "We welcome Uefa's decision to appoint an inspector.

"We submitted a very detailed report citing in particular our concerns about the organisation by the Slovaks in relation to crowd measures.

"We look forward to providing any further assistance to Uefa in the next few weeks.

"Our report to Uefa was very lengthy and it is important for us that the evidence we provided has clearly be taken very, very seriously."
