David Vaughan slides in for his first Wales goal against Liechtenstein

Manager John Toshack says Wales' 2-0 win in Liechtenstein was a satisfying conclusion to an unsuccessful and poor World Cup qualifying campaign.

"Maybe we could have [scored] more, I'm pleased with the result," said Toshack.

"We created six or seven good chances, took two and overall I think it was a well-deserved result.

"We gave the ball away at times when we shouldn't have done. Quality-wise we weren't as good as we should have been but we set about our task well."

On his new-look strike pairing - Jermaine Easter and Simon Church - Toshack added: "Jermaine could have had two or three goals and Churchy worked very hard."

Defender James Collins captained Wales for the first time to become the ninth skipper used by 60-year-old Toshack in his five years in charge.

"It's always good to win the game," said recent Aston Villa recruit Collins.

"I'm not massively happy with the performance but it's tough coming to a place like this and we're happy to win.

"Liechtenstein made it tough for us. We had a lot of possession but they were tough to break down. We stuck to our task well.

"Vaughany [David Vaughan] was fantastic on Saturday [against Finland] and it was the same [here].

"He's not been in the squad for a while but he's come back and been superb for us."
