Bellamy has won 57 caps for Wales since making his debut in 1998

Captain Craig Bellamy says he has been left "disappointed" again by Wales' failed World Cup qualifying campaign.

The Manchester City striker was on the score sheet as Wales went down 2-1 in Finland, meaning they finish fourth in Group Four going into the final game.

That is in Liechtenstein on Wednesday, but Bellamy's campaign is already over after picking up a booking for dissent in Helsinki.

"It hasn't been a great group," Bellamy, 30, told BBC Sport Wales.

Wales had no chance of qualifying for next year's World Cup in South Africa ahead of Saturday's defeat, but were still within a chance of finishing third if they had beaten Finland and results went in their way in next week's final round of games.

But now even that has gone.

Wales got off to the worst possible start on five minutes when Roni Porokara slotted into an empty net from 12 yards from Wayne Hennessey's parry.

Bellamy drew Wales level 12 minutes later sliding home David Vaughan's squared-ball from the left.

But Niklas Moisander's strike 13 minutes from time to seal the win.

"I'm very disappointed," said Bellamy. "I thought there were goals out there for us.

"In the second half we didn't keep the ball well enough and inevitably you are going to pay the price."

The only notable outcome from the defeat in Finland was that Bellamy's equaliser made him Wales' fifth-highest goal scorer.

It was his 17th goal for Wales, overtaking his Manchester City manager Mark Hughes on 16.

He now trails Ian Rush, Ivor Allchurch, Trevor Ford and Dean Saunders in the rankings.

"For my name to be mentioned with some of those names - which will be the case for a few years now - I will be very, very proud," added Bellamy.
